Factor - The importance of renewables and the energy transition

14 February 2020 | Mitigation

Today, February 14, we celebrate the international energy day. From Factor, we want to tell you why renewable energies are so important and how we can help your organization on the road to an energy transition that will help us all fight the climate emergency.

Renewable energy is a vital part of the solution to mitigating global climate change. It facilitates and promotes low-carbon and sustainable development. The transformation to a renewables-based system offers substantial and long-term socio-economic benefits. This includes, for example, facilitating economic growth, creating jobs, reducing environmental damage, improving human health, wellbeing and development, as well as reducing gender-related and societal inequalities.

Beyond its role in mitigating climate change, the case for renewable energy is compelling because of its cost competitiveness. Renewable energy projects now regularly beat new fossil fuel-fired power generation projects on price. In many locations and markets throughout the world, renewable energy is today the cheapest way of generating electricity. The overall costs of solar PV, onshore wind, hydropower and bioenergy projects are now typically lower than fossil fuel projects of equivalent size. Moreover, the cost profiles of renewables are continuing to fall. Whilst renewable energy investments were once viewed as highly risky, the opposite is now true. Renewables projects offer investors predictable, steady and attractive returns on their investments. Worldwide investment in renewable energy projects has surged and continues to grow worldwide.

Factor is committed to supporting the transition to renewables-based energy systems. We help governments, private sector organizations, communities to play their own part in – and benefit from – the sustainable energy transition. Factor provides specialist services related to:
