Factor applies the Urban Risk tool for the definition and calculation of climate risk in the urban environment in 10 municipalities

Factor with the support of the Fundación Biodiversidad, of the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition, has been working during the last year on the development of a tool for the analysis of climate risk in Spanish municipalities, with the aim of increasing the resilience of Spanish cities through the knowledge of the climate risk that affects them.
The Urban Risk tool has been piloted in 10 provincial capitals, representing different climatic, social, economic and environmental realities in Spain. They have been the following ones:
- A Coruña: coastal municipality with Atlantic climate.
- Gijón: coastal municipality with Atlantic climate.
- Bilbao: inland municipality close to the coast, with an Atlantic climate.
- Logroño: inland municipality with Atlantic climate.
- Valencia: coastal municipality with a typical Mediterranean climate.
- Jaén: inland municipality with a dry Mediterranean climate.
- Granada: inland municipality with Mediterranean climate with mountain influence.
- Zaragoza: inland municipality with Mediterranean climate and cold winter.
- Madrid: inland municipality with a confluence of various climates (dry Mediterranean climate and cold Mediterranean winter).
- Palma de Mallorca: an insular, coastal municipality with a typical Mediterranean climate.
This exercise has made it possible to adjust the proposed methodology and the first version of the tool. The results, as well as the final version of the tool, were presented in a webinar on June 20th.
