Factor assists in the carbon neutrality of the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai

27 June 2019 | Mitigation | 9

From June 26 to 28, the Factor team, represented by Asier Sopelana, partner and project manager, is in Shanghai, China, supporting the GSMA in calculating the carbon footprint of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event and neutralizing its emissions.

Factor will support the maintenance of the MWC Shanghai carbon neutrality certification by assisting in the calculation of the carbon footprint and the definition of its carbon management plan. Factor will also assist in the verification and declaration of neutrality.

As an organization, the GSMA is fully aware of the impact its activities and events have on climate change.
In 2011 the GSMA established a GHG emissions indicator for all its event activities, identifying key actors and processes, to implement actions and targets to reduce the carbon footprint of events.

Since 2014, the GSMA has taken this commitment one step further and neutralized all GHG emissions associated with the MWC event. Importantly, in 2015, 2016 and 2018, the MWC achieved the Guinness World's Largest Carbon Neutral Trade Show world record.

The efforts demonstrated at MWC Barcelona were extended to MWC Shanghai for the first time in 2015. In this sense, the GSMA has continued with its carbon audit and its reduction and neutralization efforts for each MWC event with the support of Factor in its different events and for the first time in the event in Shanghai, where it will have the support of Carbon Bridge.

Since 2004 Factor has been offering technical consulting services in the fields of climate change adaptation and mitigation, climate finance, carbon footprint, sustainability, circular economy, among others, for governments and international organizations, as well as for more than 400 companies.
