Factor CO2 offsets the carbon footprint of the First Meeting of GLOBAL Aclima to be held in Bilbao

13 September 2016 | Mitigation

Bilbao, September 13, 2016. As part of its commitment as a partner of ASOCIACIÓN Cluster de Industrias de Medio Ambiente de Euskadi (Aclima), Factor CO2 will assist in the process of offsetting CO2 emissions of the 1st Meeting of Aclima GLOBAL, Environmental Challenges in Colombia and Mexico to be held in Bilbao on September 13th and 14th,  2016.

The congress will be held over two days where institutions and associations from Colombia and Mexico will present the main challenges in waste, water and environmental protection of both countries with the aim of finding the best solutions offered worldwide.

Aclima, as organizer of the event, will take into account all environmental impacts associated with the event and act to minimize them. In addition, given the commitment to the environment and thanks to the collaboration of Factor CO2, all CO2 emissions associated with the event will have a final balance zero.

This will be achieved through the following measures:

- The carbon footprint. The six greenhouse gases of the Kyoto Protocol will be considered and accounted for both, direct and indirect emissions of the event.

- Reducing carbon footprint and compensation. As sustainable measures, that have been carried out for the event, it should be mentioned the fact of choosing a location easily accessible by public transport such as metro, bus, etc. and the recent remodeling which implemented energy efficiency measures for the location.

- A project to reduce CO2 emissions through renewable energy will be developed as a compensation measure under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol and validated by the Framework UN Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This project will not only seek the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases, but it will also seek to generate other environmental and social benefits for the communities in which it operates.
