Factor collaborates in the project of the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy of the British Government in Latin America

26 June 2020 | Mitigation

The British Government's Department for Business, Energy and Industry Strategy (BEIS) is conducting a needs assessment on energy innovation and greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement technology in developing countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa. The aim of the project is to advise BEIS in the process of developing its strategy for financing climate change mitigation initiatives in developing countries through its International Climate Finance (ICF) fund.

For the development of the project BEIS-ICF relies on Vivid Economics, which complements its team of experts in Latin America with the collaboration of Factor Ideas for Change. More specifically, in the second phase of the project, thanks to Factor's local experts, it has been possible to deepen the analysis of the political economy at the national level and to achieve a more in-depth understanding of mitigation opportunities in Colombia and Mexico. Specifically, Factor evaluates and offers recommendations in five thematic areas:

  • Fiscal Policy & Just Transition
  • Industrial Decarbonization Policy
  • Sustainable Consumption Patterns
  • Agriculture and Food: Improving Productivity
  • Intelligence and Climate Data

Complementing the forces of Vivid Economics with the experience and presence of Factor in the regions under study, a high quality team is guaranteed which covers all the required areas, from the possible opportunities for a route towards the mitigation of GHG emissions in developing countries, to the understanding of the local economic aspects in mitigation actions and climate change oriented finances.

Ultimately, the project will provide an updated evaluation of the main climate change mitigation opportunities in Latin American countries, which the British Government (BEIS) will be able to use as a base for implementing a strategy for future sustainable finance and climate needs in the study areas.
