Kepa Solaun, CEO of Factor, will participate in the webinar Environment in times of pandemic

02 June 2020 | Mitigation

June 5 is an important date in the official calendar of the United Nations since 1974, the year in which World Environment Day was declared. This day aims to promote environmental action with a global reach that unites countries, organizations, celebrities, and society around the climate emergency.

This year 2020, due to the extraordinary circumstances that are affecting the world population, the topic is biodiversity. Recent events that have marked the beginning of the year, such as the massive wildfires in Australia or California, the locust plague in Africa or the global pandemic of COVID-19 have made the need to act and change the relationship between human beings and the environment more visible. According to the UN reports, the resources of 1.6 planets like Earth are needed to keep the current needs of society, this can cause irreversible damage to biodiversity and serious consequences for humanity, as the appearance of the COVID-19 has proved.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Science Museum of the University of Navarra has organized the Webinar "Environment in times of pandemic". Kepa Solaun, CEO of Factor Ideas for change, will participate as a specialist on climate change and will discuss the relationship of COVID-19 in the environment. In the presentation, Kepa will analyze the impact and consequences that the pandemic and the economic crisis, derived from it, will have on greenhouse gas emissions, and therefore on climate change.

The Webinar will also be attended by Jesús Miguel Santamaría, Director of the Institute for Biodiversity and Environment Research at the University of Navarra, who will speak about the evolution of pollution in different countries because of the pandemic and confinement. Finally, Enrique Baquero, zoologist, professor, and researcher at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Navarra, will present the topic "Animals, humans and their interactions", relating it to the appearance of the virus.
