From January 10 to 12, 2020, Kepa Solaun, Partner and General Director of Factor and Craig Menzies, head of the Energy Department, attended on behalf of the organization to the Tenth Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, which Factor attends for the fifth consecutive year.

More than 1,500 delegates from 160 countries participated in the IRENA Assembly, as well as the main actors in the civil society, and the private sector.

This Assembly deliberated on the progress of IRENA in the Work Program and budget for 2018-2019, key issues for the global energy transition, as well as to chart the path to follow in a context of massive deployment of renewable energies, and the medium term strategy to 2022.

In addition, the assembly concluded that the participation of renewable energies in global energy should more than double by 2030 to advance global energy transformation, achieve the sustainable development goals and a path to climate security. Electricity from renewable sources should supply 57% of global energy by the end of the decade, compared to the current 26%.

Likewise, the new 10 Years: Progress to Action publication, presented at the tenth annual IRENA Assembly, shows recent world progress and describes the measures still needed to expand renewable energy. The Agency data shows that the annual investment in renewable energy must double from around 330,000 million dollars at present, to about 750,000 million a year to deploy renewable energy at the required speed.
